Baltimore County, MD — A middle school physical education teacher in Baltimore County has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual offenses and assault involving minors, sending shockwaves through the local education community.

Roger Myers, 61, a longtime employee of Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS), was taken into custody on Friday by detectives from the Baltimore County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit. The charges stem from alleged incidents that took place on school property, according to a news release issued by police.

Online court records confirm that Myers faces multiple charges of sex offense and two counts of second-degree assault. He had been working as a physical education teacher at Deep Creek Middle School since July 2024, although he has been employed with BCPS since 1996. In a letter sent to families, students, and staff, Deep Creek Middle School Principal Laura Kelly acknowledged the arrest, stating:

“These charges are deeply troubling. BCPS holds its employees to a high standard of character, and this alleged behavior is abhorrent and completely unacceptable.”

Kelly emphasized that the school is cooperating fully with law enforcement and reassured the community that student safety remains the district’s top priority.

Counseling and support services will be made available to students and staff affected by the news. The school has encouraged anyone needing support to contact the counseling office at 443-809-0112.
