Colby Ryan’s story is one of resilience amid unimaginable tragedy. As the only surviving member of a family torn apart by a harrowing series of events involving his mother, Lori Vallow Daybell, Colby has faced profound loss, intense public scrutiny, and the challenge of rebuilding his life in the shadow of a national headline. His candid reflections aim not only to honor the memories of those lost but also to shed light on the struggles faced by individuals caught in the crossfire of sensational legal battles.

Tragic Discovery in Wenatchee: Three Young Girls Found Dead; Father Sought in Connection

WENATCHEE, Wash. — The Wenatchee community is devastated after the heartbreaking discovery of three young girls found dead following a widespread search. Olivia, Evelyn, and Paityn Decker—aged 9, 8, and 5—were reported missing last weekend after their father, Travis Decker, failed to return them following a scheduled visitation.

On June 2, deputies from Chelan County discovered Travis Decker’s 2017 white GMC truck abandoned near the Rock Island campground, close to Leavenworth. A thorough search of the surrounding area soon led investigators to the tragic discovery of the girls’ bodies.

Travis Decker remains at large and is wanted by law enforcement on charges of three counts of first-degree murder and kidnapping. Authorities have warned that Decker, a military veteran with extensive training, may pose a significant threat to public safety. It is unknown whether he is armed, and the public is urged not to approach him. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts or recent sightings is asked to call 911 immediately.

Described as 5-foot-8, weighing approximately 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, Decker was believed to be living out of his vehicle and had been traveling westbound on Highway 2 after leaving Wenatchee. Initial attempts to issue an Amber Alert were unsuccessful; however, an Endangered Missing Person Alert was later issued following further investigation.

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management, Homeland Security, the East Cascade SWAT Team, and the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team, have been actively involved in the investigation and search efforts.

The Wenatchee Police Department and partnering agencies continue to work tirelessly to locate Travis Decker and bring closure to this tragic case. The community remains in shock and mourning, hoping for swift justice and safety in the days ahead.

One Dead, One Injured in Shooting at Children’s Dance Recital at Mobile’s Saenger Theater; Suspect in Custody

MOBILE, Ala. — A community is in mourning and disbelief after a tragic shooting disrupted a children’s dance recital at the historic Saenger Theater on Sunday night, leaving one man dead and another injured.

According to the Mobile Police Department, an altercation between two men inside the packed theater quickly escalated into gunfire. The incident occurred during a dance recital filled with families, young performers, and community members.

Carl Williams III, 27, was shot during the confrontation and later died from his injuries. Another victim was shot in the ankle and is expected to recover.

Chaos in a Place of Celebration

Witnesses described the moment as surreal and terrifying.

“At first, I thought it was part of the act,” said Sandra, who was in the audience. “The two young men were pushing each other, and then one of them just pulled a gun from his belt and started shooting. People screamed and ran. It was chaos.”

Reginald, another attendee, was separated from his granddaughter who had just performed moments before the gunfire erupted.

“I heard arguing, and then I saw the flash of the gun,” he recalled. “We dove under the benches. It was terrifying. I’ve been crying ever since. These kids are traumatized — I’m traumatized. This was supposed to be a safe, joyful event.”

Families rushed to find their children, and dance studio staff acted quickly to move performers backstage and out of danger.

Victim Captured Final Moments of Joy

Williams, the deceased victim, had been recording a video of his daughter performing on stage when the argument broke out behind him. Moments later, he was shot.

Police later identified the suspect as Marcus Sanders, 27, who fled the scene on foot immediately after the shooting. Hours later, he turned himself in to authorities and is now charged with murder and first-degree assault.

Chief William Jackson of the Mobile Police Department confirmed the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between Sanders and Williams, who knew each other.

“This was not a random act,” said Chief Jackson. “This tragedy unfolded from a personal conflict that should never have escalated to violence—especially not in a space filled with children.”

    A Community in Shock

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Mobile community, leaving families and organizers heartbroken over an event that was supposed to celebrate young talent and achievement.

“This was my daughter’s final recital, her senior year,” said Kym Anderson, a former NBC 15 anchor who was in the audience. “What happened was senseless. The staff did an incredible job protecting the children, but this is something no parent or child should ever experience.”

Other witnesses expressed outrage that a firearm had been brought into an event centered around children.

“There were so many kids in there,” said Regina, a mother in attendance. “A bullet doesn’t have a name. When you open fire in a room full of families, you’re not just endangering your target—you’re endangering everyone. It’s heartbreaking.”

    Moving Forward

The Saenger Theater has reopened, but the emotional scars remain. Counselors are being made available to children, families, and staff impacted by the shooting. Police are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

The Mobile community is coming together in the wake of this tragedy, determined to support the victims and ensure that events intended to uplift and inspire are never again marred by violence.

Man Charged in Shooting That Injured Two Outside Mariucci Arena After High School Graduation

Man Charged in Shooting That Injured Two Outside Mariucci Arena After High School Graduation

Minneapolis, MN — A 20-year-old man from Coon Rapids is facing multiple felony charges in connection with a shooting that took place Friday evening outside Mariucci Arena, shortly after the Wayzata High School graduation ceremony. The incident left two individuals injured and sparked fear and chaos among families celebrating the milestone event.

Hamza Abdirashid Said, 20, has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and possession and operation of a machine gun after authorities identified him as the alleged shooter in the attack. The shooting occurred in a heavily populated area just outside the arena around 8 p.m., as graduates and their families were exiting the ceremony.

    Gunfire Erupts Amid Graduation Celebration

University of Minnesota Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they encountered a 49-year-old man who had been shot in the head. The victim, who had been attending the graduation with his family, told police he heard an argument and a scuffle break out behind him. Moments later, a gunshot rang out.

He attempted to flee with his family but soon felt a burning sensation on his head. Realizing he was bleeding, the man collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Medical professionals later confirmed he had suffered a skull fracture and brain bleeding, which caused numbness on the right side of his body. He remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

A second victim, a 19-year-old man, sustained a gunshot wound to his upper right leg. He was transported to a local hospital but reportedly refused to cooperate with police investigators.

    Surveillance Footage Identifies Suspect

According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video from the area shows a group of males running away from the east entrance of Mariucci Arena. Among them was Said, identified by investigators as wearing a black Somali-style gown.

The footage allegedly shows Said pulling up the front of his gown and reaching toward his waistband before extending his arm toward the younger victim. A handgun is clearly visible in his hand, and multiple muzzle flashes are seen, indicating several shots were fired.

Immediately after the gunfire, bystanders can be seen ducking and running for cover in the surveillance video. Said is then seen jumping over nearby bushes and fleeing south, later discarding both his weapon and gown outside Williams Arena.

Weapon Found with Illegal Conversion Device

Officers recovered a Glock 17 handgun at the scene. Upon inspection, investigators discovered that the firearm had been illegally modified with a “switch” — a device that converts semi-automatic handguns into fully automatic weapons. The modification is illegal under both state and federal law due to the increased danger and lack of control it introduces to the weapon.

Authorities believe the modified firearm significantly elevated the risk to everyone in the vicinity and are treating the case with heightened urgency.

    No Known Motive Yet

At this time, law enforcement has not identified a motive for the shooting. It remains unclear whether Said had any connection to the victims or was involved in the graduation ceremony itself. Charges filed on Monday did not include any details suggesting a specific target or cause for the altercation.

Police continue to investigate whether others were involved in the incident and are asking anyone with information or video footage to come forward.

    Community and School Officials Respond

The shooting has drawn strong reactions from both school officials and the broader community. Wayzata High School released a statement expressing sorrow over the incident:

“We are deeply saddened that this violence occurred following what should have been a joyful and memorable event. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

University of Minnesota officials also acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and are evaluating campus security procedures in light of the event.

Suspect in Custody, Facing Felony Charges

Said was arrested and taken into custody shortly after the shooting. He is being held while awaiting his initial court appearance. Given the severity of the charges, prosecutors are expected to request continued detention.

He faces the possibility of significant prison time if convicted, particularly due to the use of an illegal automatic weapon in a public setting.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the University of Minnesota Police Department or call 911. Tips can also be submitted anonymously.
