Young Father Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Milwaukee’s Hoan Bridge; Bystanders Tried to Save Him

MILWAUKEE, WI — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded Sunday night on Milwaukee’s Hoan Bridge, when 21-year-old Devon Davis, a young father, lost his life in a devastating motorcycle crash. Despite the heroic efforts of several Good Samaritans, including trained medical professionals who happened to be passing by, Davis could not be saved.

Among those who stopped was Caesar Banks, a fellow motorcyclist and medical worker, who described the moment he saw the wreckage. “You see the young man lying there,” Banks said. “At that point, I pulled my car up. I saw his bike, I pulled over, jumped out. I keep gloves in my car — because you never know.”

Banks, along with two other medically trained bystanders, immediately began administering CPR and trying to stabilize Davis until first responders arrived. Their quick action and compassion reflected a powerful moment of humanity in the face of tragedy.

“It’s hard,” Banks said. “Because one day, that could be me on my bike.”

Devon Davis was more than a crash victim — he was a beloved son, a friend, and a father. Family members shared that he had a vibrant spirit and was devoted to his child. His sudden death has left an immense void in the lives of those who loved him.

The crash is currently under investigation by local authorities. Officials have not released details about what may have caused the accident or whether other vehicles were involved. The Hoan Bridge was temporarily shut down Sunday night as emergency crews worked the scene and began collecting evidence.

The community response has been filled with both grief and admiration — sorrow for the young life lost, and gratitude for those who did all they could to help. Witnesses say the scene was chaotic, but also moving: strangers coming together in an attempt to save someone they had never met.

“This wasn’t just a statistic. He was someone’s everything,” one community member said.

As the investigation continues, friends and family are asking for prayers and privacy as they mourn. Plans to honor Devon’s life are expected to be announced in the coming days.

In Loving Memory of Mitchell Worland

A quiet evening at West Boggs Lake turned tragic on Saturday, June 21, 2025, when 33-year-old Mitchell Worland lost his life in a drowning accident. What was meant to be a peaceful summer night by the water quickly became a heartbreaking scene that has left the Daviess County community in mourning.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officers and local emergency responders were called to the 1,500-acre lake after witnesses reported that a man had gone under the water and failed to surface. Those nearby tried to locate him, but the search quickly escalated as hope turned to fear.

Specialized dive teams from multiple agencies, along with EMS and local fire departments, launched a coordinated recovery effort. After more than two hours of searching the murky lake waters, divers located Mitchell around 9:30 p.m., not far from where he was last seen. His body was recovered with care and respect, and the scene was cleared later that night with the weight of sorrow heavy in the air.

The incident serves as a solemn reminder of how quickly and silently danger can arise around open water—even for those who are comfortable swimmers. Officials continue to urge caution and the use of life jackets while swimming in lakes and rivers.

But Mitchell’s story is not defined by the tragedy of that night. He was a kind, thoughtful, and deeply loved man whose life touched many. • In Loving Memory of Peter Taylor LGBTQ Advocate, Historian, and Beloved Member of the Faulkner Morgan Archive

In Loving Memory of Peter Taylor LGBTQ Advocate, Historian, and Beloved Member of the Faulkner Morgan Archive

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Peter Taylor, a treasured member of the Faulkner Morgan Archive’s Board of Directors and one of our most devoted, visionary supporters. Peter passed away on June 22, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Hospital after a brief illness. His loss is not only personal to those of us who knew and loved him, but a profound one for Kentucky’s LGBTQ community and its history.

Peter was more than a supporter — he was a steward of memory, a fierce defender of dignity, and a quiet revolutionary. A lifelong LGBTQ advocate, he brought clarity, compassion, and a fearless commitment to justice to every role he held: as a mental health professional, a rare book collector, a researcher, and a guardian of the stories too often left untold.

Peter’s work with the Faulkner Morgan Archive was foundational. His belief in the power of history — not just to inform, but to heal, empower, and preserve — shaped our mission and fueled our progress. He understood that documenting our past was an act of courage. Through his leadership and insight, Peter helped ensure that Kentucky’s LGBTQ lives and legacies were not lost to time but celebrated, studied, and remembered with the care they deserve.

His words continue to guide us:

“History is written by the winners — and the existence of this archive proves that here, by God, we won one.”

Peter Taylor was a winner in the truest sense: not through conquest, but through compassion. Through his quiet resilience. Through the truth he insisted on telling, and the lives he helped bring to light.

He was deeply loved. He will be deeply missed. And he will never be forgotten.

As we mourn his passing, we also recommit ourselves to the work he helped build. We will carry his memory with us in every story we preserve, every voice we uplift, and every truth we refuse to let be erased.

Rest in power, Peter. Thank you for everything.
