One Dead, Two Injured After Tragic Shooting Outside Cache 42 Restaurant
A night that began with the promise of food, fun, and fellowship turned into a scene of tragedy and chaos in Southeast Shelby County, as a shooting outside Cache 42 on Hacks Cross Road left one person dead and two others injured late Saturday night.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), deputies were called to the parking lot of Cache 42, located at 4202 Hacks Cross Road, shortly after 10:05 p.m. following reports of multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, authorities discovered that three individuals — two adult men and a teenage male — had been shot during what was described as a sudden and violent altercation.
All three victims were transported to area hospitals. Two were listed in non-critical condition and are expected to recover. However, one of the victims — whose identity has not yet been publicly released — suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene outside the upscale restaurant and lounge, which had been hosting a large crowd at the time of the incident. Screams echoed across the parking lot as patrons and staff scrambled for safety. A witness who asked not to be named said, “One moment we were laughing, dancing — just enjoying the night — and the next, there were gunshots. People were ducking, running, crying. It was terrifying.”
Investigators with SCSO have cordoned off the scene and launched a homicide investigation. Yellow crime scene tape and flashing patrol lights remained visible well into the early hours of Sunday morning as detectives worked to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review surveillance footage from the restaurant and nearby businesses.
Authorities have not released any information regarding a suspect or suspects in the shooting, and the motive remains unclear. Deputies are urging anyone who may have information about the incident or who witnessed the shooting to contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
Cache 42, known for its vibrant weekend crowd and popular dining and nightlife offerings, issued a brief statement on social media expressing condolences to the victims’ families and affirming their commitment to cooperating with law enforcement.
“We are heartbroken over the tragic events that occurred outside our establishment last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and we are working closely with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.
The shooting has reignited concerns about public safety in entertainment districts across Memphis, where similar incidents have taken place in recent months. Local community leaders and activists are calling for increased security measures, including better lighting, expanded law enforcement presence, and greater focus on conflict de-escalation during large public gatherings.
“This is not just about one restaurant or one night — it’s about the larger issue of gun violence that continues to plague our community,” said one Southeast Memphis neighborhood advocate. “We need a plan, and we need action, before more lives are lost.”
As families mourn, investigators search for answers, and a shaken community tries to make sense of the violence, Saturday’s shooting stands as yet another somber reminder of the urgent need for solutions to the city’s ongoing gun violence crisis.
