Tragic Highway Collision Claims Lives of Two Gillette Motorcyclists
GILLETTE, WY — June 19, 2025 — The city of Gillette is in mourning following a heartbreaking highway crash that claimed the lives of two well-known community members, Ricky Lynch, 74, and Steve Layman, 68, on Wednesday morning. The tragic incident occurred when a work truck veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with both motorcyclists on Highway 450, east of Wright, Wyoming.
According to Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Roascio, the accident was reported around 8:00 a.m. near mile marker 5332. Lynch and Layman were riding eastbound on a 2009 BMW and a 2007 Honda Goldwing, respectively, when a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500—driven by a westbound driver—crossed the center line and struck both riders.

Both Lynch and Layman died at the scene, leaving the Gillette community stunned and devastated.
