MILAN, Ill. — A quiet Sunday afternoon in Milan turned tragic when a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a local resident. The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 30-year-old Alex Naseef, a resident of Big Island, died after his truck left the roadway and submerged in a pond along Big Island Road.
The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the 2500 block of Big Island Road. According to a 911 caller, a truck had veered off the road and plunged into a pond on the north side. Emergency personnel, including sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and medical teams, responded immediately.
Despite their rapid response and efforts to rescue the driver, Alex Naseef was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the truck to leave the road. Weather conditions at the time were reported to be clear, and it is unknown whether speed, a mechanical failure, or a medical emergency may have played a role. The case remains under active investigation by the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Remembering Alex Naseef
News of Alex’s death has sent shockwaves through the community. Friends, family, and neighbors are mourning the loss of a man described as genuine, kind-hearted, and generous. Those who knew him say he was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was fixing something around the house, volunteering in the neighborhood, or simply being there for a friend in need.
Alex had lived in the Big Island area for most of his life and was known for his strong work ethic and quiet, humble demeanor. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and spending time outdoors. His connection to the land and water that surround Big Island made the location of his passing all the more poignant for those who loved him.
One close friend shared, “Alex had a peaceful soul. He never asked for much, but gave so much to those around him. It’s hard to imagine this place without him.”
Ongoing Investigation
As the community grieves, investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the crash. The sheriff’s office has not ruled out any factors at this time. The pond where the accident occurred is located just off a curved stretch of roadway with limited barriers — a point of concern for locals who say the area has seen other accidents in the past.
Officials are expected to release more information in the coming days, including findings from the medical examiner and crash reconstruction teams.
Community Support and Remembrance
A small memorial has begun to form near the crash site — flowers, candles, and handwritten notes line the edge of the pond, marking the place where a life was tragically cut short. Friends and family are also planning a public vigil later this week to honor Alex’s memory and provide a space for collective grieving and reflection.
“Our hearts go out to the family of Alex Naseef,” said a spokesperson from the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office. “This is a terrible tragedy, and we are doing everything we can to provide answers and support during this difficult time.”
For now, the community of Milan stands together in sorrow, remembering a young man whose life, though brief, left a lasting impact.
Rest in peace, Alex. You will be missed.
