Roswell Man Paul Sedillo-Reyes Charged in Fatal Shooting of Nadia Madrid

ROSWELL, N.M. — A Roswell man has been charged in connection with the tragic shooting death of 46-year-old Nadia Madrid, following a domestic incident that unfolded Tuesday night, July 1. The suspect, 53-year-old Paul Sedillo-Reyes, is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, after authorities say he shot and killed Madrid at a residence the two shared in southeast Roswell.

Roswell Police Department officers were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of South Mulberry Avenue around 9:25 p.m. after Sedillo-Reyes called 911, reporting that his girlfriend had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Madrid lying outside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Initially, Sedillo-Reyes told officers he had found Madrid injured outside. However, a thorough investigation by the RPD Criminal Investigations Division quickly uncovered inconsistencies in his account. Evidence collected at the scene—including blood patterns, ballistics, and recovered firearms—indicated that the shooting had actually taken place inside the home.

Two guns believed to be involved were recovered from the scene, along with additional evidence supporting the conclusion that the fatal shots were fired indoors. Authorities say both Sedillo-Reyes and Madrid were residing in the home at the time of the incident and had a history of an on-and-off relationship, which may have contributed to the deadly encounter.

Following the execution of a search warrant and further evidence collection, Sedillo-Reyes was formally arrested around 6:30 a.m. on July 2. He has since been booked into the Chaves County Detention Center and is now facing the following charges:

  • First-degree murder
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Felon in possession of a firearm

The Roswell Police Department confirmed that Sedillo-Reyes is a convicted felon and was not legally allowed to possess firearms.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, with detectives working to piece together the full circumstances surrounding Madrid’s death. Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the case to contact the Roswell Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

The death of Nadia Madrid has left her loved ones and the community in mourning. Her life, taken so violently, is a painful reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the need for continued awareness, support, and intervention.
