One Dead, Three Injured in Tragic Three-Vehicle Crash on Maynardville Highway in Knox County

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A devastating crash on Maynardville Highway near the Union County line has left one person dead and three others hospitalized, according to Rural Metro Fire officials.

The collision, which involved three vehicles, occurred Friday evening, June 13, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. near Loyston Road, a stretch of highway that was completely shut down as emergency crews responded. The Knox County Rural Metro Fire Department, along with other first responders, arrived on the scene to find a chaotic and tragic situation, with mangled vehicles and debris scattered across the roadway.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were transported to a local hospital with injuries. The names and conditions of those injured have not yet been released.

Authorities say the severity of the wreckage suggests that speed may have been a contributing factor, although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation to determine what led to the deadly accident.

“This is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly lives can change on the road,” said a Rural Metro spokesperson. “We urge everyone to drive carefully, obey speed limits, and stay alert—especially on rural highways like this one.”

As of 10:00 p.m., the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) confirmed that Maynardville Highway remained closed in both directions near Loyston Road. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes as the investigation and cleanup continued late into the night.

Community members have already begun expressing their sorrow and condolences as they await more information about the victims involved. The name of the deceased will be released once family notifications are complete.

Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
