One Dead, One Seriously Injured in Early Morning Crash in Graves County

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. – A tragic single-vehicle crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning has left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 6 a.m. on July 1, a passerby reported a crash in the 2000 block of KY 408 West. When first responders arrived, they discovered a minivan that had veered off the road, struck a tree, and caught fire.

The driver, 30-year-old Sherrod Shelton, was found lying in the roadway with severe injuries. He was transported by Mayfield Graves County EMS to Lourdes Hospital and later airlifted to an out-of-state medical facility for further treatment.

A passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old Raye A. Jones, was trapped inside the minivan and tragically died at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, initial findings from the investigation suggest that a domestic disturbance may have occurred inside the vehicle just prior to the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

No additional details have been released at this time. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information related to the crash to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
