Remembering Jon Dent, a Bright Light Gone Too Soon

A wave of grief has washed over the North Vancouver community following the tragic passing of Jon Dent, a vibrant and deeply loved 10-year-old boy who lost his life during a Saturday evening outing at Cates Park.

Jon was the kind of child who brought sunshine wherever he went — full of energy, curiosity, and kindness. Whether it was playing along the shoreline, laughing with friends, or simply enjoying a summer day, Jon embraced life with a joyful spirit that left an unforgettable mark on those around him.

His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community devastated. As we mourn the loss of a beautiful young soul, we also remember the light he brought into the world and the memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

This heartbreaking incident also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of water safety and responsible boating practices, especially during the busy summer season. In Jon’s memory, let us recommit ourselves to protecting one another — on and off the water.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Jon’s family as they navigate this unimaginable loss. May they find comfort in the outpouring of love and support from the community that stands with them during this time of sorrow.
