Shooting at Dr. Boyd’s Veterinary Resort Stuns Community
A quiet Monday morning in North Bethesda turned tragic when violence erupted inside a well-known local business. A man in his 20s was shot multiple times at Dr. Boyd’s Veterinary Resort, located on the 11500 block of Rockville Pike, sending shock and concern rippling through the community.
The incident unfolded inside the popular veterinary facility, which had just opened for business when the gunfire rang out. Montgomery County Police responded to 911 calls shortly before 9 a.m., finding the victim seriously wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
As of now, investigators have not publicly identified the victim or a suspect, but the case is being treated as a targeted shooting. Authorities have emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, though the suspect remains at large. Surveillance footage is being reviewed, and witnesses inside the facility at the time are being interviewed.
The shooting has left employees, pet owners, and residents shaken. Dr. Boyd’s Veterinary Resort, known for providing both veterinary care and pet boarding, was forced to close for the day as police cordoned off the area and began their investigation. Several individuals who were dropping off pets or arriving for appointments were turned away, stunned by the heavy police presence.
“It’s terrifying to think something like this could happen here,” said a nearby resident. “This is a place people trust — not just with their pets, but with their peace of mind. It’s heartbreaking.”
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The incident has reignited discussions about community safety and the rising number of gun-related incidents across suburban neighborhoods once considered safe from such violence.
As the investigation continues, thoughts and prayers are pouring in for the young man fighting for his life — and for a community seeking answers and healing after an unthinkable act.
