Mother and Infant Son Found Dead on Chicago’s South Side Identified

CHICAGO  — A profound tragedy unfolded on Chicago’s South Side, where a young mother and her 1-year-old son were found dead, leaving a neighborhood shaken and a community in mourning.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims as 25-year-old Kendrea Richardson and her baby boy, Ellis Washington.

According to officials, a witness discovered Kendrea unresponsive in a backyard early Tuesday and called 911. Chicago police and emergency responders arrived swiftly, but Kendrea was pronounced dead at the scene.

While first responders were securing the area, a Chicago firefighter noticed the door to the nearby residence was open. Upon entering the home, paramedics discovered 1-year-old Ellis unresponsive inside. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the child was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chicago Police Department is currently treating the case as a death investigation. As of now, the cause and manner of death for both mother and child remain unknown, and no additional details have been released. Autopsies are pending.

The heartbreaking discovery has left many neighbors stunned and grieving the loss of two lives taken far too soon. Community members have described Kendrea as a kind and loving mother devoted to her child.

“We are deeply saddened by this unimaginable loss,” said a spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department. “Our hearts are with the family, and we are working diligently to understand what happened.”

As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
