Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb Identified as Victim in Anderson Juneteenth Mass Shooting

ANDERSON, S.C. — A tragic mass shooting at a Juneteenth celebration in Anderson turned a night of unity and remembrance into one of heartbreak and loss. Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb, 35, of Anderson, was fatally shot during the violent incident that erupted late Saturday evening on Scarborough Road.

According to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore, Cobb sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death has been officially ruled a homicide.

The shooting occurred around 10:00 p.m., during a large outdoor community gathering. What began as a peaceful celebration of freedom and cultural heritage descended into chaos when gunfire rang out, sending attendees running in panic and confusion.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene, including the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson Police Department, Medshore Ambulance Service, Anderson County Fire Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Anderson County EMS, and the Anderson County Office of the Coroner.

In total, 11 people were shot:

• One deceased: Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb, 35
• Two victims with critical injuries were rushed to AnMed Health and Prisma Health.
• Seven others sustained gunshot wounds to their extremities and are being treated at AnMed Health.

Victims were located at the scene as well as at local hospitals, with some arriving by private vehicles. Authorities described the scene as chaotic, with emergency teams working swiftly amid a crowd in shock and distress.

As of now, no suspects have been publicly identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Law enforcement is asking anyone with information, video footage, or photos from the event to contact the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

The loss of Laporshia Cobb, a beloved member of the community, has left family, friends, and neighbors devastated. Her name will now be remembered not just for the life she lived, but also as a painful reminder of the violence that shattered a day meant for celebration.
