Kentucky Woman Killed While Crossing Highway in Somerset

SOMERSET, Ky. — A tragic accident has claimed the life of a Monticello woman after she was struck and killed while crossing a highway in Somerset on Saturday night. Authorities have identified the victim as 39-year-old Linda Green.

The incident occurred on Highway 27, a major roadway known for fast-moving traffic and limited pedestrian access in certain areas. According to the Somerset Deputy Coroner, Green was attempting to cross the highway when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. Emergency crews arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been sent to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. As of Monday, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.

A Community in Mourning

Linda Green’s sudden and tragic death has left her family, friends, and the Monticello community heartbroken. Described by loved ones as caring, compassionate, and deeply rooted in her community, Linda was known for her generous heart and commitment to helping others.

“She was the kind of person who would stop whatever she was doing just to help someone else,” said a close friend. “To lose her like this is just devastating.”

Green leaves behind two children and a large extended family. A memorial service is being planned, and a fundraiser has been launched to support her children and cover funeral expenses.

Safety Concerns on Highway 27

The crash has reignited concerns about pedestrian safety along Highway 27, particularly in areas with limited lighting and inadequate pedestrian infrastructure. Residents have voiced frustrations in the past, calling for better crosswalks, clearer signage, and slower speed zones near residential areas.

“This road is dangerous even in the daytime,” said a local resident. “At night, without proper lighting, it becomes a real hazard—especially for people walking.”

The Somerset Police Department, in collaboration with the Kentucky State Police, continues to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash. Toxicology results, vehicle data, and witness statements will be part of the final report, which will help determine if any further legal action is necessary.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Somerset Police directly.

Linda Green’s death is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can change. Her family, friends, and community are left to grieve a life lost far too soon—and to call for change that could save others in the future.
