Chicago Hairstylist & Beloved Best Friend of Kenneka Jenkins
It is with unimaginable sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Zahrie Walls, a talented hairstylist from Chicago and the best friend of the late Kenneka Jenkins. Zahrie tragically lost her life on June 21, 2025, after falling from a boat during the widely attended “Black Yacht Weekend” event. She was later found near the pier, leaving loved ones in shock and grief.
Zahrie was known for more than just her creativity and skill as a hairstylist—she was a beautiful soul, a bright spirit, and someone who loved deeply and lived boldly. To her clients, she was more than a stylist; she was a friend, a listener, a healer with her hands and her heart. To her family and friends, she was the glue, the laughter, and the light in the room.
Many remember Zahrie as the fiercely loyal best friend of Kenneka Jenkins, whose mysterious death in 2017 shook the nation. In life, they were inseparable, and now, in the minds and hearts of those who knew them, they are reunited—two young women whose time was far too short, yet whose impact is everlasting.
This tragedy has left a deep wound in the Chicago community and far beyond. Social media has flooded with tributes, memories, and prayers as people struggle to process another senseless loss. Zahrie was just beginning to soar, and her absence is being felt in salons, homes, and hearts across the city.
To Zahrie’s family, friends, and all those mourning this devastating loss—our hearts are with you. May you find comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in every life she touched, and that somewhere, her best friend welcomed her with open arms.
Rest peacefully, Zahrie.
Your friend missed you.
