In Loving Memory of Sharanjit (Sonu) Kang – A Devoted Family Man, Friend, and Colleague
It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Sharanjit (Sonu) Kang of Surrey, British Columbia. Sonu left us far too soon at the age of 40, leaving behind a loving wife and two beautiful young daughters. His passing has created an unfillable void not only in the hearts of his family but also in the lives of countless friends, coworkers, and community members who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sonu was the kind of person whose presence brought comfort, strength, and a sense of togetherness. He was a devoted husband, a proud and caring father, and a man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and build a future rooted in love and security. His dedication to his loved ones was unwavering, and everything he did was with their well-being in mind.
Professionally, Sonu was a valued member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU). Known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and deep sense of responsibility, he earned the respect and admiration of his peers and colleagues. He was the kind of person who never hesitated to lend a hand, share a smile, or go the extra mile—not just because it was his job, but because it was who he was.
His sudden and unexpected passing has left so many in shock and sorrow. Sonu’s absence is deeply felt in every corner of the community he helped shape—whether through his work, his friendships, or the deep familial love that defined him. The Kang family is now facing a future forever changed, as they grieve the loss of a man who meant everything to them.
As we remember Sonu, we honor the values he lived by: hard work, loyalty, love, and humility. We reflect on his many quiet acts of kindness, the laughter he brought into our lives, and the steady, dependable presence he was for so many. Though his time with us was tragically short, the impact he made will endure.
During this difficult time, we ask that you keep the Kang family in your thoughts and prayers. The road ahead will not be easy, especially for his wife and daughters as they face the immense challenge of moving forward without their beloved husband and father.
To those who knew Sonu—whether as a family member, a friend, or a fellow union brother—let us hold close the memories we shared and offer support to one another as we grieve. And most importantly, let us surround the Kang family with compassion, love, and strength, just as Sonu always gave so selflessly to others.
In loving memory of Sharanjit (Sonu) Kang—may his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy of love and hard work live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
With deepest sympathy,
The Surrey Community & ILWU Family
