-In Loving Memory of Reverend Leslie Joan Poulin (1963 – 2025) A Faithful Servant, Loving Mother, and Pillar of Compassion

Heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reverend Leslie Joan Poulin, who departed this life peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the age of 61, surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends. A beacon of kindness, faith, and compassion, Leslie leaves behind a legacy rooted deeply in service, love, and unwavering faith.

Born on July 16, 1963, in Ottawa, Ontario, Leslie was the cherished daughter of Dalton and the late Joan Poulin, and a beloved sister to Kelly Poulin (Randy) and Carrie Poulin Nowlan, both of Ottawa. Growing up in the community of Blackburn Hamlet, Leslie was raised in a devout Lutheran household, where faith was not only practiced but lived. Her early inspiration came from a guiding family figure—her uncle, Reverend F.W. Zinck of Calgary, Alberta—whose spiritual example sowed the seeds of what would become a lifelong devotion to ministry and service.

Leslie pursued her education with great enthusiasm, attending the University of Calgary, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and later the University of Saskatchewan, where she studied at the Lutheran Seminary to fulfill her calling. In 1992, she was ordained and began her ministry with her first pastoral call in Weldon and Kinistino, Saskatchewan. What followed was a remarkable journey of faith and leadership, as she answered calls to serve in Melfort, Brunkhild, Morris, The Urban, and Rosenfeld. At each stop along the way, Leslie touched lives with her warmth, empathy, and unwavering support, not only as a pastor but as a friend, confidant, and counselor.

Throughout her life, Leslie was widely recognized for her open heart and helping spirit. Whether aiding a member of her congregation, offering a kind word to a stranger, or organizing community outreach efforts, Leslie’s first instinct was always to serve. She made it her mission to stand by those in need—no matter who they were or where they came from. Her kindness knew no boundaries, and her faith in people never wavered.

Above all, Leslie was a devoted mother, whose love and strength guided her children—Dara, Jilleen, and Philana Bonk—with grace and dedication. Her daughters were the light of her life, and her pride in them was unmatched. She was also a cherished aunt to Tyler Nowlan and Kelsey, who will fondly remember her gentle guidance and loving presence.

Though her loss is deeply felt, Leslie’s memory will live on in the countless lives she touched. Her teachings, compassion, and unwavering belief in the goodness of others leave a lasting impression that will continue to shape her community for years to come.

Leslie is predeceased by her mother, Joan Poulin, and survived by her father, Dalton Poulin, her sisters Kelly and Carrie, her beloved daughters, nieces and nephews, and the many congregants and friends who were blessed to know her.
