BETHANY, Conn. — A devastating accident has left the communities of Thomaston and Shelton in mourning after Philip Labonte, 37, was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash on the evening of Monday, June 23, 2025.
According to Connecticut State Police, Labonte was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle along Route 69 in Bethany around 9:30 p.m. when he struck a deer that had suddenly entered the roadway. The collision caused Labonte to be thrown from his motorcycle and onto the highway.
Just moments later, a Subaru Impreza, driven by a 37-year-old man from Prospect, approached the area and, unable to avoid the crash site, struck Labonte. Despite emergency personnel arriving quickly, Labonte was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police have stated that the crash appears to be a tragic accident, and there is no indication of negligence or impairment. The investigation remains ongoing.
