Pellston, Michigan, On July 5, 2025, the Pellston community suffered a heartbreaking loss with the tragic passing of Christopher Houseworth, a rising junior at Pellston High School, and his beloved father, Dale Houseworth, in a drowning accident near Burt Lake. Their sudden departure has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved them.
Christopher Houseworth, just 16 years old, was a shining light in the halls of Pellston High. A gifted multi-sport athlete, he was known not only for his skill on the field but for the genuine joy and warmth he brought to those around him. Whether playing football, basketball, or running track, Christopher led with quiet confidence, sportsmanship, and a heart full of kindness. His infectious smile, positive attitude, and humble spirit uplifted everyone in his presence. To his classmates, teachers, and coaches, Christopher was more than a student ā he was a friend, a teammate, and an inspiration.
His father, Dale Houseworth, was his biggest fan and fiercest protector. A devoted and loving dad, Daleās world revolved around his sons. He never missed a game, a moment, or an opportunity to cheer Christopher on ā not just in sports, but in life. Linda, a woman of incredible resilience, was the heart of their home ā a source of comfort, support, and unconditional love.
The loss of Christopher and Dale has deeply impacted Pellston Public Schools and the greater Pellston community. Christopherās absence will be profoundly felt by his teachers, teammates, and fellow students ā many of whom considered him a role model and friend. In response, the school has arranged for grief counseling services under the guidance of Mr. Schlappi to support those who are mourning. The school office will remain open, and all are encouraged to seek comfort and connection during this time.
