He Was Supposed to Graduate This Year” — Yakima Mourns the Loss of Salvador Granillo, 18

YAKIMA, WA — What was meant to be a year of celebration has turned into heartbreak for the friends and family of Salvador Granillo, a bright and beloved 18-year-old who was tragically shot and killed after an argument escalated at a weekend party. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on South Keys Road in Yakima.

Salvador, who was looking forward to graduating this year, lost his life before help could arrive. Witnesses reported a heated exchange moments before gunfire rang out. The suspect — a 21-year-old man — fled the scene and was last seen driving a silver Mitsubishi, according to police. Authorities warn the suspect is armed and dangerous, and the search is ongoing.

Now, instead of preparing for prom and graduation, Salvador’s friends are planning a vigil to honor his life, his memory, and the dreams that were cruelly cut short. He was more than just a student — he was a friend, a classmate, a son — known for his kindness and the potential he carried with him every day.

“No one expected this ending,” said a classmate through tears. “He had so much ahead of him. We just want to remember him for the light he brought into our lives.”

The Yakima community is rallying around the Granillo family, offering prayers, condolences, and support during this time of unimaginable loss.

More details, including vigil information and ways to support the family, will be shared as they become available.

If you have any information about the suspect or his whereabouts, please contact local authorities immediately.

Rest in peace, Salvador. You will never be forgotten.
