Elkhart, Indiana – One Dead, Eleven Injured in Devastating Early Morning Shooting

ELKHART, Ind.  — Tragedy struck the Elkhart community in the early hours of Sunday morning, June 15, 2025, when a mass shooting left twelve people shot, including one person who has died from their injuries. The incident unfolded just after 1:00 a.m. in the 300 block of West Garfield Avenue, sending shockwaves through a neighborhood unaccustomed to such violence.

According to the Elkhart Police Department, officers were dispatched following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews quickly arrived and began transporting the injured to local hospitals. Despite lifesaving efforts, one individual was later pronounced dead. The names and conditions of the other eleven victims have not yet been released.

Authorities immediately shut down a large section of West Garfield Avenue, spanning from the 200 to 400 blocks, to preserve the crime scene and begin an extensive investigation. Detectives canvassed the area for evidence, spoke with witnesses, and are working to determine the events that led to the violence. At this time, no suspects have been taken into custody, and no motive has been publicly disclosed.

“This is a deeply disturbing and heartbreaking event for our community,” an Elkhart Police spokesperson said in a press statement. “Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We are doing everything in our power to find those responsible.”
