Crowley, LA — The community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Markell Lazard, whose body was recovered after he went missing while swimming near the Calcasieu River in Oberlin, Allen Parish.

According to reports, Markell was last seen on April 19, 2025, attempting to cross the river with a group of friends. Witnesses stated that he went underwater and did not resurface. His mother, Tiffany Woodson, shared her anguish on social media, expressing the helplessness she felt during the search. Despite extensive efforts by local law enforcement and volunteer groups, including the United Cajun Navy, Markell’s body was found on April 21, 2025.

Markell’s untimely passing has left a profound impact on his family and the Crowley community. He was known for his vibrant spirit and the positive influence he had on those around him.
