Yonkers Police Arrest, Charge Man in North Broadway Shooting Incident
YONKERS, NY — The Yonkers Police Department has arrested and charged a local man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Friday evening, June 6, 2025, near 944 North Broadway — a busy stretch that runs through one of the city’s medical corridors.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, units discovered several 9mm shell casings, confirming the presence of a shooting. Fortunately, no individuals were struck, and no property damage was reported.
The Yonkers Police Major Case Squad, along with the Digital Forensics and Crime Scene Units, promptly secured and began investigating the scene. Through a combination of surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts, detectives learned that a dispute had broken out between two males inside a nearby office building. The altercation continued outside, where one of the individuals brandished a firearm and fired approximately three shots at the other before fleeing the area.
A swift and coordinated search by responding officers led to the identification and apprehension of the suspect just blocks away on Executive Boulevard. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old James Morris of Yonkers, was taken into custody without further incident.
Morris has been charged with the following offenses:
- Attempted Murder in the Second Degree
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree
- Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree
Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza praised the quick actions of law enforcement, stating,
“A swift and decisive arrest was made following a reckless shooting near one of our city’s busiest medical corridors. Thanks to the relentless work of our detectives and patrol officers, a dangerous individual is now off the streets. We will not tolerate this kind of violence in our communities — especially near places of care and healing.”
The case is now in the hands of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, which will prosecute the matter.
As always, the Yonkers Police Department reminds the public that all charges are merely accusations at this stage, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
