Tragic Domestic Murder-Suicide Leaves Twin City Community in Mourning and Two Children Orphaned

TWIN CITY, GA – June 14, 2025 — A heartbreaking domestic tragedy has shaken the small community of Twin City to its core, as a fatal shooting claimed the lives of 27-year-old Zaria Khadejah Carr and her husband, 36-year-old Shamarcus Jameal Carr, in what authorities have confirmed to be a murder-suicide. The couple’s two young children, now orphaned, are at the center of a growing wave of grief and concern as the city mourns a loss too heavy to bear.

A Devastating Night

According to the Twin City Police Department and Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, the events unfolded around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a violent domestic disturbance at a residence in the 100 block of 5th Avenue. When first responders arrived, they discovered Zaria Carr unconscious with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities then discovered that her husband, Shamarcus Carr, had turned the gun on himself shortly after fatally shooting Zaria. He was also found deceased inside the home.

The couple’s two minor children were inside the residence at the time of the incident. Miraculously, they were physically unharmed, but are now left without both parents. They are currently in the care of family members as child welfare services and community leaders rally to provide them with support and stability in the wake of unimaginable trauma.

A Community in Shock

The Carr family was known to many in Twin City. Friends, neighbors, and coworkers have described Zaria as a devoted mother and loving daughter who had a radiant spirit and a strong desire to build a better future for her children. Her death is described by those who knew her as “senseless” and “incomprehensible.”

“She was the kind of person who lit up a room,” one family friend said. “She loved her babies more than anything in the world. We are all devastated.”

The tragedy has sparked sorrow and outrage throughout the community, raising questions about domestic violence, mental health, and the unseen struggles that families may be facing behind closed doors. For many, the situation is a painful reminder of how critical it is to speak up, reach out, and support those who may be suffering in silence.

An Urgent Call to Action

While investigators continue piecing together the circumstances that led to this tragic murder-suicide, advocates for domestic violence victims are urging anyone in abusive or dangerous situations to seek help. Local shelters and crisis lines have seen an increase in calls since the incident, and faith leaders have organized vigils and community discussions to provide healing and resources.

“We must do better,” said one local pastor during a candlelight vigil Sunday evening. “Zaria’s story cannot be forgotten. These children deserve a community that will wrap them in love, but we must also confront the issues that allowed this to happen.”

Remembering Zaria Carr

Zaria’s loved ones have described her as joyful, driven, and immensely proud of her children. She had dreams of starting her own business and creating a stable, happy life for her family. Her memory will now live on through her children, whose lives are forever changed.

As the community of Twin City mourns and searches for answers, the hope remains that this tragedy will ignite deeper conversations about domestic violence prevention, mental health awareness, and the urgent need to protect those who are vulnerable.

Funeral arrangements for Zaria Khadejah Carr and Shamarcus Jameal Carr will be announced by the family in the coming days.
