Man Arrested After Jackson Woman Fatally Shot in Suspected Domestic Violence Incident

JACKSON, Miss. — A tragic act of domestic violence has left a Jackson community in mourning following the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Carrie Lotasha Fields on Tuesday morning.

According to the Jackson Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 3600 block of Jayne Avenue where they discovered Fields deceased from a gunshot wound. The call came in early Tuesday, prompting an immediate investigation.

Authorities quickly identified the incident as a possible domestic situation. Investigators believe the victim knew her attacker.

On Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., police arrested Andrew Sawyer, 28, in connection with the shooting. He was taken into custody by the department’s homicide division and is now facing charges related to Fields’ death.

Jackson Police also confirmed that a second suspect is still being sought in connection to the case. Details surrounding that individual’s involvement have not yet been released.
