It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cedric Lamar Dean, a 49-year-old man from Bessemer, Alabama, who tragically lost his life in a railway incident on the night of Sunday, April 20, 2025.
A Tragic Incident
At approximately 10:45 p.m., emergency services received a call reporting a person struck by a moving freight train on the 5500 block of Avenue A in Bessemer. Despite the swift arrival of first responders, Cedric was pronounced dead at the scene just seven minutes later, at 10:52 p.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Cedric was found on the tracks, but the circumstances leading him to that location remain unclear. The train operator was unable to stop in time, and no evasive actions were taken. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident.
