A Family Torn Apart: Remembering Leila and Rosa Faraji
LEONARD, OK — April 20, 2025 — In a heartbreaking tragedy near Leonard, Oklahoma, a family of four was swept away by floodwaters, resulting in the deaths of Leila Seyed Faraji, 46, and her 7-year-old daughter, Rosa Faraji. The incident unfolded when the family attempted to cross a flooded bridge, believing they could safely navigate the submerged roadway. Tragically, their vehicle became overtaken by the swift current.
The father and their 10-year-old daughter managed to escape to higher ground, but Leila and Rosa were carried away by the powerful waters. Extensive search and rescue operations were launched by the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, supported by multiple agencies, including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, local fire departments, and community volunteers. Despite their efforts, Leila’s body was recovered the following morning, and Rosa’s body was found later that day.
The loss of Leila and Rosa has left a profound impact on the community. Family friend Ahmad Moradi described Leila as “one of my best students, very well-mannered, enthusiastic, she was a joy.” He expressed deep gratitude for the support from all the organizations involved in the search and recovery efforts.
As the family of two now remains—broken and grieving—our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time. The community stands united in mourning and support, hoping for healing and strength in the days ahead.
In honor of Leila and Rosa’s memory, a memorial fund has been established to assist the surviving family members. Donations can be made at [link to memorial fund].
Please keep the Faraji family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
