Community Mourns 10-Year-Old Zameria Jones After Tragic Shooting in Itta Bena, Mississippi
ITTA BENA, MS — The city of Itta Bena is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 10-year-old Zameria Jones, who was tragically killed in a senseless act of violence on the night of May 26, 2025.
Around 11:00 p.m., a black Infiniti SUV was driving along Main Street under the railroad underpass when it was targeted by gunfire. Multiple shots were fired at the vehicle, striking a young passenger — Zameria. She was rushed for emergency care, but despite all efforts, her injuries proved fatal.
Zameria Jones was just 10 years old. A child with dreams, a family who loved her, and a future that should have stretched far beyond one tragic night. Her life was stolen in a moment of cruelty that has shaken the Itta Bena community to its core.
“This should never happen to anyone, much less a child,” said one community member. Vigils, tears, and calls for justice have poured out from residents, local leaders, and advocates who are demanding answers and accountability.
