Sioux Falls Police Identify Victim in Fatal Stabbing at West Side Apartment Complex
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred last week at a west side apartment complex, marking the second deadly incident at the same location in under a month.
The victim, 43-year-old Virgil Wayne Hawkwing III, died from injuries sustained during a violent altercation that escalated when a knife was introduced into the fight. Sioux Falls Police confirmed Hawkwing was pronounced dead shortly after the confrontation, which took place at an apartment complex already under scrutiny following a previous fatal stabbing.
According to investigators, officers were dispatched to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered Hawkwing critically injured. Despite life-saving efforts from emergency responders, he succumbed to his wounds.
Police have not yet released the name of the suspect or the circumstances that led to the altercation, but they confirmed that the incident involved individuals who were acquainted with one another. The case remains under active investigation, and authorities are working to determine whether charges will be filed.
This incident has raised serious concerns among residents in the area, with community members calling for increased safety measures and more visible police presence.
“We’re deeply troubled by another tragedy at this location,” said a spokesperson for the Sioux Falls Police Department. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Hawkwing as we continue to investigate and ensure justice is served.
