Community Devastated by Loss of Beloved Hairstylist Jax Gratton

A heavy wave of grief has engulfed the Denver community following the heartbreaking news of the untimely death of Jax Gratton, a talented and beloved local hairstylist whose vibrant presence touched the lives of many. Gratton, who had been reported missing earlier in the week, was tragically found deceased in an alleyway in Lakewood. Her death has left family, friends, and clients reeling from the devastating loss of someone known not just for her artistry, but for her radiant spirit and deep compassion.

Jax Gratton, 34, had built a loyal following as a hairstylist known for her keen sense of style and her remarkable ability to make clients feel seen, heard, and confident in their own skin. Her salon chair became more than a place for beauty—it was a safe space, a confessional, and a refuge. For many, Jax was not just their stylist; she was a trusted friend and confidante, a person whose laughter could fill a room and whose kindness left a lasting impression.

She was last seen earlier in the week, prompting an outpouring of concern and a frantic search by family, friends, and community members. Flyers were shared across social media and in neighborhoods throughout Denver and Lakewood. Hopes remained high, but those hopes were tragically dashed when her body was discovered in an alleyway near West Colfax Avenue on Friday morning. Authorities have not yet released an official cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In a statement, Jax’s family expressed their profound sorrow:
“Jax was light, color, and comfort in this world. She gave so much of herself to others—through her work, her laughter, and her love. We are shattered by her loss but grateful to have had her in our lives, even if it was for far too short a time.”

The news of her passing has sparked a tremendous outpouring of love and remembrance from clients and fellow stylists across Colorado. Social media has been flooded with tributes, memories, and photos celebrating her artistry and generous soul. Many recalled how she had a gift for lifting others up, even on their worst days.

“Jax had this way of making you feel beautiful from the inside out,” one client wrote. “You walked out of her chair with more than just a new look—you left feeling empowered.”

Her coworkers describe her as a force of nature in the salon—creative, driven, and unfailingly kind. “She was the kind of stylist people would wait weeks to see, not just because she was good at what she did, but because they genuinely wanted to be around her,” said one colleague. “Her loss leaves a hole we don’t know how to fill.”

Gratton’s friends have organized a candlelight vigil to be held in Denver’s City Park this weekend, offering the community a chance to grieve together and honor her life. A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to help cover funeral expenses and support Jax’s loved ones as they navigate the painful road ahead.

While questions remain and investigators continue their work, one thing is heartbreakingly clear: the Denver community has lost a rare and radiant soul. In her short time, Jax Gratton brought beauty, joy, and light to those who knew her—and that light will be remembered, even in the shadow of this tragedy.
