GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Man Killed in 28th Street Shooting, Community in Shock
A tragic shooting on the evening of Saturday, June 7, 2025, has left the Grand Rapids community reeling after 27-year-old Marlo Stanfield was shot and killed near the intersection of 28th Street and Jefferson Avenue.
According to police, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Stanfield with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident triggered a significant law enforcement presence in the area. A nearby motel was evacuated and placed on lockdown as investigators worked through the night to secure the scene and collect evidence. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing people flee the area.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and police have not released any information about a suspect or motive. Investigators believe the shooting may have been targeted, but they are asking the public for any tips that could assist in the case.
Marlo Stanfield’s death has left friends, family, and community members devastated. He is remembered as a loyal friend and a positive presence, whose life was senselessly cut short.
