Tallassee, AL — Community Shaken After Shooting Leaves Malik Allen Hospitalized

The city of Tallassee, Alabama, is grappling with shock and concern following a violent incident Saturday evening that left one man hospitalized after suffering gunshot wounds.

On April 26, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Tallassee Police Department were dispatched to the 900 block of Hickory Street in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, officers quickly located the victim, who was later identified as Malik Allen, a Black male whose life now hangs in the balance.

Before emergency services could arrive, private individuals transported Allen to Tallassee Community Hospital, where medical staff immediately began life-saving efforts. The extent of Allen’s injuries has not yet been publicly disclosed, but hospital sources confirmed that he received emergency treatment upon arrival. His current condition remains unknown as of the latest updates.

Authorities have launched an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police have not yet released information regarding a potential suspect or motive, and they continue to appeal to the public for assistance. Detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses and are reviewing any available surveillance footage in hopes of piecing together what led to the violence.

The Tallassee Police Department released a brief statement urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward:

“This is an ongoing investigation. We ask members of the community who may have witnessed or have any information regarding the shooting to please reach out to us. No detail is too small.”

The shooting on Hickory Street has left residents deeply unsettled, with many expressing concerns about safety in their usually quiet neighborhood. Several neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a small crowd gather before police arrived. Some have described the incident as “uncharacteristic” of the area, which has historically experienced low rates of violent crime.

Friends and family members of Malik Allen have taken to social media to express their fears, love, and hopes for his recovery.
“He’s a good guy, always kept to himself, and he didn’t deserve this,” one friend wrote. “We are praying hard that Malik pulls through.”

As of Sunday morning, community leaders were already discussing ways to address growing concerns about violence and to strengthen efforts around conflict resolution and youth outreach programs in the area.

Tallassee Mayor Johnny Hammock released a brief statement Sunday afternoon:

“We are deeply saddened by the recent events on Hickory Street. Our thoughts are with Malik Allen and his family during this difficult time. The City of Tallassee remains committed to ensuring justice is served and to fostering a safe environment for all our residents.”

Authorities have emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving this case and ensuring accountability for those responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Tallassee Police Department directly or submit an anonymous tip through local crime reporting services
