GULF BREEZE, FL — The community of Gulf Breeze is in deep mourning following the tragic and untimely passing of Shawn Smith, 38, who lost his life in a devastating car crash in Santa Rosa County during the early morning hours of June 25, 2025.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 12:00 a.m., when Shawn was driving eastbound in a sedan. His vehicle collided with the rear of a van driven by a 68-year-old man, also from Gulf Breeze. The violent impact caused both vehicles to come to rest on the westbound side of the highway, just east of Beechwood Drive.

Shawn was transported to Gulf Breeze Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the van sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Sacred Heart freestanding ER in Navarre before being released.
