Fort Myers, FL — 18-Year-Old Critically Injured in Maple Avenue Shooting

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA — A Fort Myers neighborhood was shaken late Saturday night after an 18-year-old man was critically injured in a violent shooting outside a duplex on Maple Avenue.

The incident unfolded around 9:21 p.m. at 2405 Maple Avenue, when Fort Myers Fire Department and Lee County EMS units rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders found the young man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway area of the duplex.

According to radio communications from Fire and EMS crews, the victim had sustained at least six gunshot wounds to the abdomen and one additional wound to the chest. Given the severity of his injuries, paramedics declared the situation a “Trauma Alert” and immediately transported the victim to Gulf Coast Medical Center for emergency treatment.

The identity of the victim has not been publicly released as authorities work to notify next of kin.

Heavy Police Presence

Following the shooting, a large police presence flooded the area surrounding Maple Avenue as Fort Myers Police officers secured the scene and launched an investigation. Crime scene tape cordoned off the immediate vicinity, and detectives could be seen canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage that might provide crucial leads.

Residents in the normally quiet community were left stunned and fearful after the rapid burst of violence.

“I heard what sounded like fireworks at first,” said one neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “But when I looked out the window and saw the flashing lights and all the police cars, I knew something terrible had happened.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed any information regarding potential suspects or motives. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward to assist with the investigation.

Trauma Response and Condition

At Gulf Coast Medical Center, trauma teams immediately took over the victim’s care. A “Trauma Alert” designation means the patient’s injuries are life-threatening and require urgent, specialized intervention. As of early Sunday morning, there has been no official update on the young man’s condition.

Hospital officials and law enforcement are maintaining strict privacy protocols, and family members are being offered support during this extremely difficult time.

Ongoing Investigation

The Fort Myers Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken charge of the investigation. Detectives are methodically gathering evidence, including ballistic analysis and forensic examination of the scene. Investigators are also working to determine if the shooting was targeted or random, and whether it may be connected to any recent disputes or criminal activity in the area.

Police are also reviewing nearby security cameras and encouraging residents in the area to check any private surveillance footage that could help identify those responsible.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital in helping us solve this case,” said a spokesperson for Fort Myers Police. “We are committed to bringing justice to the victim and ensuring the safety of our community.”

Those with tips are encouraged to contact Fort Myers Police directly or to report information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
