In Loving Memory of Jay Lyons — June 6, 2025
On June 6, 2025, we lost one of the truly good ones. Jay Lyons — a devoted firefighter, loyal friend, and pillar of his community — tragically passed away in a water accident while on a cruise vacation. His sudden and heartbreaking loss has left a deep void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Jay was the guy who always showed up. Whether it was for a fire call, a friend in need, or just an early morning conversation before the day began, he was there — steady, dependable, and full of life. He walked through the doors at 400 E Walnut nearly every day before 7:30 a.m., often ready with a laugh, a quick joke, and the kind of energy that made you feel like everything was going to be okay.
He was the kind of man you could talk trash to — and he’d dish it right back, always with that signature grin. But more than anything, Jay had a servant’s heart. He made those around him better — whether through his tireless dedication to the fire service or his unwavering kindness to the people in his life.
Jay had a gift for lifting the weight off heavy days. He made you laugh when you needed it most and stood by you when things got tough. He was more than a firefighter; he was a leader, a listener, a friend — and for many, a brother in every way that counts.
Details about final arrangements are still pending and will be shared when available. In the meantime, take a moment tonight to hold your people close. Say what you mean. Celebrate the ones who make your world brighter — just like Jay always did.
Rest easy, Jay Lyons. Your legacy of service, humor, and heart lives on. We’ll take it from here.
