Texas Mother Mourns Son Killed on Easter Sunday, Just Weeks Before Graduation

WACO, Texas — A Texas mother is grieving the loss of her 18-year-old son, Giovanni Lopez, who was fatally shot on Easter Sunday, April 20, just weeks before his high school graduation

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. in the 1700 block of J.J. Flewellen Road. Waco police reported that Lopez and two other individuals—a second 18-year-old and a 23-year-old—were shot and transported to the hospital. Lopez succumbed to his injuries, while the other two victims survived.

Lopez’s family is devastated by the sudden loss. His aunt, Mallory Ordonez, described the emotional turmoil: “One minute we’re laughing at something we remember about Giovanni, and then that same memory will make you feel like you’re dying.

The Waco Police Department continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with information to come forward.

Lopez was set to graduate next month, a milestone now tragically unfulfilled. His family and community remember him as a vibrant young man whose life was cut short too soon.
