Two Memphis Students Fatally Shot Near Booker T. Washington High School; Police Seek Suspects

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 26, 2025) — A tragic shooting near Booker T. Washington High School in South Memphis has left two students dead, prompting an urgent search for multiple suspects by the Memphis Police Department.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Mississippi Boulevard and South Lauderdale Street, just steps away from the school campus. Memphis Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two Memphis-Shelby County Schools students suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, pending notification of their families. The Memphis Police Department has described the shooting as a targeted attack but has not disclosed further details regarding the motive or the number of suspects involved. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying those responsible.
