Fatal Shooting in Auxier, Kentucky Leaves One Dead; Suspect on the Run

A quiet afternoon in the small community of Auxier turned deadly on Friday when a domestic altercation escalated into gun violence, leaving one man dead and another fleeing the scene.
According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), 48-year-old Steven Adkins, of Prestonsburg, was fatally shot during a domestic dispute that occurred in Auxier on the afternoon of April 25. Troopers responded to reports of a shooting and arrived to find Adkins with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspected shooter, whose identity has not yet been released, fled before authorities arrived. KSP has launched an intensive search, utilizing both ground units and aerial surveillance in hopes of locating the suspect.
“This is a tragic incident that has deeply shaken our community,” said a KSP spokesperson. “We are pursuing all leads to ensure the individual responsible is located and brought to justice.”
Authorities believe the altercation was domestic in nature, though the specific relationship between the individuals involved has not been disclosed. The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is urged to contact Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville.
