22-Year-Old Lenoir County Man Shot in the Head by Stray Bullet While Doing Yard Work

LENOIR COUNTY, NC – A peaceful Saturday afternoon turned into a nightmare on June 21, 2025, when 22-year-old Tucker Williams was struck in the head by a stray bullet while tending to his yard in the 3300 block of Fountain Hill Drive.

At approximately 5:29 PM, deputies with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to reports of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Williams suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Shockingly, the young man had been simply blowing off his driveway when he was hit.

Investigators quickly determined that the shot had been fired from across a wooded area at 6960 Skeeter Pond Road, where six individuals had been engaged in target shooting. A relative of the victim confronted the group and informed them of the incident, but the six fled the area before deputies could arrive.

Coordination between law enforcement agencies led to a critical breakthrough. Pitt County officers and members of the Greenville Police Department located four of the six individuals during a traffic stop in Greenville, NC. Lenoir County detectives responded and arrested the four men on the scene, also recovering multiple handguns from the vehicle.

The individuals arrested were:

  • Drequan Reid (27) of Greenville, NC — Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M) | $2,500 unsecured bond
  • Tyrell Shavon Barnhill (26) of Greenville, NC — Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M) | $2,500 unsecured bond
  • Tymize Dyrell Barnhill (25) of Greenville, NC — Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M) | $2,500 unsecured bond
  • Tyshawn Dodd (28) of Greenville, NC — Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M) | $2,500 unsecured bond

Arrest warrants were also issued for the remaining two individuals:

  • Jordan Daniels (19) of Greenville, NC — Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M)
  • Daryl Antwan Boyd (25) of Greenville, NC — Possession of Firearm by Felon and Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M)

Despite the traumatic nature of the incident, Mr. Williams was treated and released from ECU Health Medical Center. Authorities emphasized that the shooting appeared to be unintentional, but highlighted the gross negligence of the individuals involved in target shooting near a residential area.

“This could have easily been a fatality,” said a spokesperson for LCSO. “Handling firearms irresponsibly can have devastating consequences, as this incident clearly shows. We urge the public to take safety seriously and remember that reckless behavior with weapons will be met with legal accountability.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and further charges may be forthcoming. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.
