In Loving Memory of Aquila Wallace, Bromehia Wallace, and Kamya Wallace – Drew, Mississippi

There are no words heavy enough to carry the sorrow of this loss.

On Thursday, a devastating act of violence took the lives of Aquila Wallace, 40, and her beloved daughters, Bromehia, 18, and Kamya, 19, in Drew, Mississippi. A mother and her girls, bound by love in life, were taken together in an unimaginable tragedy that has left an entire community in shock and mourning.

Aquila never had the chance to cry for her daughters—she died with them. A mother’s love is fierce, unbreakable, eternal. In her final moments, Aquila was right where she always had been: by their side. Their lives, filled with dreams, promise, and love, were senselessly cut short.

While authorities were still combing through the heartbreak at the scene, a police chase unfolded in nearby Rome, Mississippi. One of the suspects, cornered, ended his own life with a gunshot. But there is no peace in that ending. No justice that can bring back what has been lost.

Bromehia and Kamya, young women just beginning to carve their paths, had futures ahead—laughter yet to be shared, milestones to reach, and lives to fully live. Their light, so vibrant and young, now flickers only in memory.

This loss reaches far beyond one household. It echoes through the hearts of relatives, friends, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers. It is the kind of loss that makes the world feel quieter, dimmer, and colder.

We mourn alongside the family and community left behind, holding space for their grief. We remember Aquila’s strength and devotion, Kamya’s laughter, and Bromehia’s bright spirit. Let us speak their names, honor their lives, and commit to holding one another closer in the face of such senseless violence.

May their memory never fade, and may those who loved them find comfort in one another as they begin the long journey toward healing.
