Milwaukee Woman Charged in Fatal Shooting of Prominent Dentist

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A 27-year-old woman has been officially charged in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a well-known Milwaukee dentist over the weekend.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, April 19, at an apartment complex near Park Plaza Court and Brown Deer Road. Akintunde Bowden, 41, was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bowden, known in the community not only for his professional work but also for his dedication to outreach and patient care, leaves behind a legacy that has deeply impacted many in the Milwaukee area.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responding to the scene encountered Keionna McGowan, 27, who appeared to be in an emotionally distressed and panicked state. Witnesses reported that she was crying, visibly shaken, and “jumping around” outside the apartment complex.

McGowan was placed in the back of a squad car to help her regain composure. Once inside, she began to recount the events that preceded the fatal shooting. While full details of her statement have not yet been made public, the criminal complaint includes information suggesting that the shooting stemmed from a personal altercation.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the nature of the relationship between McGowan and Bowden or the circumstances leading up to the incident. Police have confirmed that no other suspects are currently being sought.

Community members and patients have since expressed their shock and sadness over the loss of Bowden, who was widely regarded as a compassionate professional and a committed advocate for dental health in underserved communities.

Charges against McGowan are pending further legal proceedings, and she is expected to make her first court appearance in the coming days.
