WICHITA FALLS, TX — June 19, 2025 — The Wichita Falls community is mourning a devastating loss as police confirm that 28-year-old Keren Martinez Ballesteros has been identified as the woman found deceased in a remote field north of the city. What began as a missing person case has now turned into a homicide investigation, leaving heartbreak, shock, and unanswered questions in its wake.

According to Sgt. Brett Keith of the Wichita Falls Police Department, the body was discovered late Wednesday, June 18, in a secluded area near Cashion Road and Carriage Lane, just outside the northern limits of Wichita Falls. Ballesteros was found lying in an open field, the victim of what authorities have described as a brutal and violent act.

Preliminary findings at the scene raised immediate suspicions of foul play. Forensic teams and investigators worked through the night gathering evidence, and their efforts quickly led to a break in the case.

Authorities have since confirmed the arrest of a male suspect, described as someone with whom Keren had a prior intimate relationship. The man, whose identity has not yet been officially released, is believed to have played a central role in Keren’s death.
