ALLATOONA LAKE, GA — A heartbreaking end to a search effort has left the Woodstock and Cherokee County communities in mourning, as authorities confirmed the body of 17-year-old Jackson Croft was recovered from Allatoona Lake on the afternoon of Friday, June 7, 2025.

Jackson, a high school student from Woodstock, was reported missing late Thursday after his newly acquired bass boat was discovered unmanned and circling near JD’s on the Lake around 5 p.m. Concerned witnesses alerted authorities, prompting an immediate response from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services.

Firefighters were able to board the circling boat, shut off the engine, and tow it back to the marina. A search effort was quickly launched in the surrounding area, but fading daylight forced the operation to pause overnight.
