Jackson, a high school student from Woodstock, was reported missing late Thursday after his newly acquired bass boat was discovered unmanned and circling near JD’s on the Lake around 5 p.m. Concerned witnesses alerted authorities, prompting an immediate response from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services.
Firefighters were able to board the circling boat, shut off the engine, and tow it back to the marina. A search effort was quickly launched in the surrounding area, but fading daylight forced the operation to pause overnight. Search teams resumed early Friday morning, holding on to hope as they combed the waters of the lake.
Sadly, late Friday afternoon, Jackson’s body was found and recovered from the lake. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources confirmed the tragic discovery and is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
